So we had to write a poem about war for English class and i kind of liked mine so i thought i would share :)

How Do You?

How do you justify watching your best friend bleed to death?
How do you beat another human being until they are numb?
How do you sit in silence when a mother isn’t there to see her child’s last breath?
How do you sit at home waiting to give bad news to a mum?

You tell yourself ‘you’re doing this for your country’ as you leave the body to rot
You get so caught up in your own survival you forget the rules of humanity
You haven’t seen your family in so long you hope they are safe and haven’t forgot
You dream of being back home not lying in the trench trying to keep you sanity

How do you sleep with the constant sound of gunfire?
How do you warrant destroying thousands of lives just to gain power?
How do you look people in the eyes when you have dimmed so many?
How do you keep going when all hope is lost?

You block your ears so you can’t hear the horrifying sounds and forget your position
You believe you are doing what is right to make the world great
You don’t look at it like you are killing people you are killing the opposition
You give up on hope, when you know each say you are changing fate

  1. Powerful and dramatic! A most impressive, confronting piece of writing!
    I especially loved the line:
"How do you look people in the eyes when you have dimmed so many?"
    So moving!
    Well done!
Just a small note, don't forget to give each post a title so that you can find them easily!
